In werkelijk geniale arrangementen mengen zij jazz met pop, funk, soul, latin en blues. Lekker in het gehoor liggende muziek, die je keer op keer weer kunt beluisteren, en als je daarbij steeds op andere instrumenten en partijen let, krijg je inzicht in de gelaagdheid van het werk: blazers, piano, bas, gitaar, synthesizers, percussie, achtergrondzang &#8211; het is allemaal even vernuftig in elkaar gezet. En de zang van Fagan is fantastisch &#8211; hij heeft een unieke stem. Bovendien waren hij en Becker hardcore perfectionisten. Aan de muzikanten werden krankzinnig hoge eisen gesteld en opnamen van zijn leadzang deed Fagan soms tot 200 keer over om zelfs het kleinste foutje weg te werken (in die tijd, we hebben het over 1970-1981, was knippen en plakken in muziekopnamen nog handwerk en niet zo simpel als met de huidige digitale multisporen-recorders).
